Hotels to Drool Over!

My Favorite Chic Countryside Boutique Hotels of the Moment…

Ever felt that you’ve had to work exceptionally hard to find a truly stylish boutique hotel in the Scottish countryside? Yes, me too! Until I started my research and found out that there are some amazing hotels out there and new ones opening all the time, but it’s just that there’s probably not one definitive online directory that lists them all.

Fear not – I have curated them for you on my website - and here, in this feature, I’ve listed a few of my absolute faves!

The Craigellachie Hotel

Where does Kate Moss book out for a party in the UK? Why here of course! The Craigellachie is the home of the Quaich whisky bar, which boasts the biggest selection of Speyside Whiskys in the land.

The Craigellachie is a 26 room boutique hotel offering a superior Scottish Highlands experience. With a beautiful setting overlooking the river, the hotel provides access to all the region has to offer. The 120-year-old country hotel was re-opened in 2015 after a £3m refurbishment. It is absolutely gorgeous! Think Soho House of the Highlands. The hotel also features a billiards room and a basement cinema room which can be used for private screenings – cool!

Douneside House

Douneside House is delicious food, décor, service and scenery – all at delicious prices. It’s near the pretty village of Tarland, in the north-east of Scotland and it’s my number 1 hotel in Aberdeenshire right now. It’s cosy and exclusive and although it’s fairly new, it already has a big personality.

I can’t honestly see a single downside to Douneside. When you arrive up the long driveway and walk into its perfectly little formed hallway, its feels as if you have stumbled upon something pretty darn gorgeous – hurray! The staff are so friendly and welcoming, the bedrooms are dreamy, and there are numerous cosy fireside spots throughout the hotel. There are also beautiful self-catered cottages on the land and a lovely fitness centre and swimming pool.

David Butters and his restaurant manager run the show at Douneside in their stride. Simple, hearty lunches make way for dramatic dinners. Lovely stuff!

Perle Oban

Perle Oban is an old harbour-side hotel dating back to 1881, which has recently had a lot of money spent on it to bring it up to world class chic standards. I absolutely love the plush contemporary décor set against the picture postcard Oban harbour location. A bedroom overlooking the harbour is going to be in-cred-i-ble! This is a stunning part of the world and the perfect hotel for exploring the west coast and the islands. Perle Oban really is a pearl of place.

Monachyle Mhor

The urban, contemporary interiors of Monochyle Mhor are such a refreshing change from the usual chintz expected in Scottish hotels. It’s probably the interiors, along with the modern attitude and the fantastic food which has won this small hotel it’s reputation as THE place to stay in Perthshire right now.

Monachyle Mhor is a boutique lochside hotel at the foot of stunning Scottish mountains. Tom Lewis and family run the hotel with passion, creativity and drive. They are always dreaming up new ventures, new parties, new eclectic decors and refurbishments.

Tom is always looking to the new, but remains fiercely protective of what is good about the hotel. His creativity and drive, together with his family and team, keep Monachyle going. They give the hotel the reputation of not only being a fantastic five-star boutique Scottish getaway, but also a very fun place to be.

East Haugh House

I absolutely adore this small hotel. I have been twice and would go back again and again. The food is soooo fresh and soooo good. Someone has really thought about the taste of each dish and how the flavours work together.

The service too, ahhh heaven… the family who own it really cannot do enough for you and are so warm, friendly, attentive and fun. I will admit the décor is not ultra chic, but it fits the charm and character of the hotel, and you will not be able to fault the experience you will have here. You know when you leave a hotel and you just feel good inside… that’s East Haugh all over. A warm Scottish welcome and impeccable hospitality awaits you. Book now!

Fife Arms - Braemar

This hotel hasn’t even opened yet and I’m already listing it on the site. Sorry, I know this doesn’t seem very professional, I just can’t help myself.. I LOVE the concept of this place. Everything from the location in Royal Deeside, the caliber of the people behind it, their awesome Instagram posts - it’s all making very good sense to me. Stay tuned - this is going to be one cool, class, bad ass ranch.
