We’re not talking Glamis Castle here, we’re talking Glamis House, which is on the estate. I single it out because I think it’s the type of self-catering rental that’s VERY much in demand these days. It sleeps 12 and although the décor is traditional and refined - you could have a lot of thoroughly modern fun here with it’s hydro pool and open fireside spots. I am so tempted to hire this place out myself for a special birthday gathering or Christmas family escape. Glamis Castle has an array of royal connections and within the house you’ll find portraits and photographs which trace the history of the estate and the family who have lived here for generations. There are oil paintings of the late Queen Mother – who was brought up within the castle, her father being Lord Glamis. Catering can be offered by the estate for some or all of your stay, and if available, it may be possible for you to arrange a meal in the splendours of Glamis Castle itself. The indoor therapy pool is a real bonus – warm and relaxing after a day out, be sure to request this when you book, as it is an extra. Other highlights include a walled garden and the walks around the beautiful estate. But if you’re a royal family admirer, the connection with the Queen Mother is a temptation too.
