The Royal Yacht Britannia

About

The Royal Yacht Britannia was home to Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family for over 40 years, sailing over 1,000,000 miles around the world. Now berthed in Edinburgh, you can follow in the footsteps of Royalty and host your very own special event there, (or visit for a tour and take afternoon tea.) What the events team at Royal Yacht Britannia don’t know about staging an event is not worth knowing, and I truly believe that. I have worked in the events industry for over 17 years. I remember being in London and always seeing the Britannia team down there at exhibitions, looking so professional. What they were very kindly doing (but possibly didn’t realise it) was selling the events industry in the whole of Scotland to the London and international markets. You are basically talking about the events team for the Queen here! And there are no more elaborate, complex proceedings - where there is no room for error - than Royal events. We’re talking silver service, white gloves and the whole 9 yards. Of course, this is not to say that your event has to feel formal and staged. They can do informal, quirky and bespoke too - because a good events team can pull off anything. That said, they really excel at the formal. Royal salutes, full military outfits, dinners where you are going to require a Master of Ceremonies and black tie. But lets have a think about this - haven’t events become too informal these days? I actually love something that’s a bit staged, because it’s not something you get everyday. It’s special - it adds drama and theatre. Imagine the feeling of historical significance knowing the Queen used to entertain Presidents and Royalty from all of over the world in the exact spot you are in. It’s also very, very easy to host an elaborate event on board this magnificent ship. The culinary team is led by Executive Chef, Mark Alston, and the exquisite food is all prepared on board in the original Royal Galleys. The events team and crew will look after every other detail for you, from the personalised invitations to the after-dinner entertainment. Simple huh! For me personally, if it had to be the event of a lifetime, and I didn’t have the time, energy or knowing to do it myself – this is where I would head. It doesn’t hurt that it’s docked in the stunning waters of Edinburgh’s Leith either. 196 for a seated dinner. 500 for a reception.
