I’m genuinely very excited about this company and what they are doing. Firstly, I think an active retreat holiday works so well in Scotland. I’m sorry, but WHERE in the world can you get such a truly beautiful, safe, clean environment to hold a wellness holiday like this. All that clean pure water and oxygen rich fresh air….. You’ll be staying in the stunning Royal Cottage - a Scottish lodge house of dreams, right on the banks of the exquisite Loch Katrine. You’ll be in awe as soon as you arrive and feel as if you just stepped into paradise. As part of a group of only 8 people, this will feel like a true privilege, an experience not many have the advantage of undertaking. All you have to do is turn up with the appropriate clothing and Kim, Alex and their team will take care of you. Doesn’t that sound nice. Bliss actually…. I mean, yes there’s exercise involved, but also hikes around the stunning countryside with a qualified mountain leader. Also biking, amazing home cooked food and during the escape each guest is invited to have a complementary sports massage with a trained therapist. Fab-u-lous! Beyond Fitness was created from a love of being outdoors and doing exciting sports that connect us with nature. Need a re-set from your corporate office job or a detox from the usual booze fueled sun-drenched beach holiday – this is it! You’ll become a bit stronger, fitter and more resilient. You’ll reap so many benefits being close to nature out in the hills, on the bike or on the trails. Kim and Alex understand it can be difficult to stick to rigid fitness programmes, and so combine workouts with outdoor activities to strike the perfect balance between enjoyment and development. They will of course, work to your level of fitness and ability wherever you are. All of the escapes make the most of the beautiful natural terrain found around Loch Katrine and the Trossachs National Park allowing you to forget the crowded gyms and stresses of daily life. They have one retreat running every month from May through to September. Here’s a sample itinerary – Either 2 or 3 day retreats. Starting at £595 per person. FRIDAY Afternoon: Guests start to arrive and settle in 6pm: Welcome meeting to discuss plans for upcoming weekend 7pm: Evening meal SATURDAY 7.30am: Morning fitness session in the grounds of Royal Cottage 9am: Breakfast 10am: Leave for the day's activity (hike or cycle) 3pm: Return to cottage for stretching session 4-7pm: Free time to enjoy a stroll along the Loch or a book by the fire. Allocated massage slots during this time as well 7pm: Evening meal SUNDAY 7.30: Morning fitness session in the grounds of Royal Cottage 9am: Breakfast 10am: Leave for the day's activity (hike or cycle) 3pm: Return to the cottage for snacks and departure All of the food is prepared and cooked on site. Where possible they source ingredients locally and even grow some of it. The food is a wonderful, relaxing experience shared round a big table, and whilst they try to keep everything healthy, it is also wholesome. They provide breakfast, packed lunches, evening meals and homemade delicious snacks in between if you need that little extra to keep you going. Coffee, tea, home-made smoothies and juices are available and there’s even a little beer or wine with dinner. The house is called Royal Cottage because it was originally built to host Queen Victoria when she came up to open the Glasgow waterworks in 1859. Unfortunately when they fired the canons to celebrate the opening, all of the glass in the windows shattered, so she didn't end up staying there in the end! So I can say with absolute authority that this a beautiful house, fit for a queen. For more info and to book – please visit their website linked below.
