Prince Charles has led the team to restore and future proof Dumfries House and Estate in East Ayrshire, to become the multi-faceted estate and extremely accessible public asset that it is today. It is quite incredible what has been achieved here and I would urge anyone looking to visit the area to investigate this place and perhaps even stay in one of their magnificent accommodations on site. (I don’t often use the word ‘magnificent’, so it must be good). A visit to the estate might take a while because there are so many things to see – the house itself, the grounds and beautiful gardens; there is a visitor centre, woodland walks, adventure playground, restaurant, café, outdoor swimming pool and education centre. There are luxury self-catering cottages and Dumfries Lodge is available to rent. You will see from the photos that the accommodation is as exquisite as the house itself. Rooms within Dumfries House can also be hired for weddings and private functions. Dumfries House is one of Britain’s most beautiful stately homes with an outstanding priceless collection of 18th Century Furniture including fine examples of the work of Thomas Chippendale. All of which has been painstakingly restored to its former glory. And as if that wasn’t enough, they are constructing an eco-village and renovating the home farm. They say it takes money to make money… well they have spent the money, so please do come along and help them make the money – because this is something too good to be missed. Also, go for dinner in the gorgeous Woodlands Restaurant on Thursday, Friday or Saturday evening. I believe they also do Sunday lunch. (Dear Prince Charles, if you are reading this…. whoever did the interior design for the cottages and lodge should be given a knighthood, it’s FAB-U-LOUS).
