Golf View Nairn

About

So the question here is – is this a destination golf/spa hotel? Honestly, my answer is yes. Why? Well let me tell you more… Firstly, just look at the stunning location - the beautifully kept gardens lead straight onto the shores of the Moray Firth where you can see dolphins and seals frolic about in the water. The gorgeous beach views can be admired from many of the 42 bedrooms, as well as from the restaurant and the spa, wow! Imagine that gin and tonic on the lawn watching the sunset on a warm(ish) day. Nairn is a very long way north. However, you may be surprised to hear that despite Nairn’s Highland latitude, it is located in one of the driest places in Britain! I deal with stunning hotels in stunning locations every day, but I have to keep reminding myself that it is a rare luxury indeed. Particularly in this instance - to get a hotel front facing out onto such a large beautiful stretch of coastline is quite exceptional. As if the incredible seaside location of Golf View alone wasn’t enough to draw you in, the spa here is actually a fab wee spa. Lovely pool, great staff, and of course - set amidst the stunning scenery looking out over the beautiful views of the Moray Firth. The views can be enjoyed from both the heated indoor pool and Jacuzzi, as well as the outdoor hot tub. The spa features both a single and dual treatment room – perfect for solo travellers, romantic breaks or a treat with a friend. The treatments here use luxurious Scottish ishga products with seaweed – good to see a Scottish spa using Scottish products with Scottish produce. You can get some superb deals on a spa break here too if you check out their website. Especially if you’re prepared to go mid-week. There are not enough good spa hotels in Scotland full stop, so it’s great that Crerar have recently upgraded this hotel to make it worthy of a stay. Go on, treat yourself and someone you love - self-care is actually a necessity in my book, not a luxury. The hotel welcomes children but it’s not overrun with families. By this I mean, it’s not one of those hotels where you have to rugby tackle someone to get the last spot at a crèche, or face the throng of families at the 5pm pasta buffet. Right on the doorstep of the hotel is the biggest children’s adventure park in the world – yes it’s a beach. It’s really all they need – perfect for rock pooling and releasing all that energy. There’s a great kids menu too, and children up to the age of 12 stay free in a family room. I know from personal experience as a parent that sometimes I really don’t want to have to go to a ‘family’ hotel, I want something a bit more grown up, with a nice restaurant and bar, where I can on at least a few occasions during the holiday feel like a normal human just relaxing on holiday. Of course, we’re missing the elephant in the room. The golf in Golf View is but a stones throw away. For many years, Nairn Championship was always in the conversation of what is the best course in northern Scotland behind Royal Dornoch. The debate included Royal Aberdeen and Cruden Bay. Now that Castle Stuart and Trump International Aberdeen have been added, Nairn Championship often gets overlooked and bypassed by golfers. But bypassing it would be a mistake. It is a very fine links course indeed. Of course, there are plenty of day trip ideas too if you want to extend your holiday. You’re in an ideal location for exploring Inverness and the wider Highland regions, from Culloden to Loch Ness. Also, you’re not far from two of my most favourite Scottish towns – Findhorn and Burghead. The white dunes of Findhorn really need to be seen to be believed. The AA Rosette-awarded restaurant at Golf View, Hickory, boasts panoramic sea views too. If you’re lucky, a dolphin's tail may catch your eye in the distance! The fine dining menu at the restaurant showcases the very best of locally sourced, Scottish produce. A must visit if you’re staying at the hotel. Outdoor drinks and dining can be enjoyed in the hotel gardens, out on the terrace too. To sum up. The group that owns this hotel, Crerar, are an ambitious Scottish hotel operator who are very sensibly investing in their hotels and putting back into the local community. In 2019 money has been spent on this hotel so that the bar, restaurant and bedrooms are looking very stylish and lovely. If you add to this the location, the spa, the golf and the upgraded service – you get a truly super holiday option – whether for a few days, or a week-long holiday. Happy to recommend Golf View in Nairn.
