Gordon Castle Walled Garden
The talented bunch at Gordon Castle Estate in the North East of Scotland are doing so many amazing things with their buildings, land and produce that I actually had to put their information into 3 separate listings on the site, and I still don't feel like i'm covering everything properly! In addition to this listing, there's a listing about the castle itself and their 5 holiday cottages which can all be rented out individually or together. They also host the Highland games, which you can find in the events section of the website. (They also have 8 fishing beats on the River Spey and make over 280 products which carry their own brand name!) But anyway, back to the walled garden - it is one of Britain’s largest, oldest walled kitchen gardens and it’s also a great family day out, with a play area, and rare plants and espaliered trees giving the keen gardener plenty to admire. The working Walled Garden changes with the Scottish seasons making each visit different. Enjoy fresh ingredients, picked minutes before they’re on your plate in the family-friendly café. Award-winning garden designer Arne Maynard is the creative force behind this Speyside Garden and has given it a new lease of life. They have a dedicated team of gardeners hard at work, digging, hoeing, sowing, harvesting. You can try the delicious freshly picked produce in the Moray restaurant, take some home with you from the shop, or order it online! Just some of the products they make are - Gordon Castle Gin - created using botanicals grown at the garden, available in three varieties – botanical, plum and raspberry, yummy! Also, Gordon Castle bath and body range – containing pure, natural, essential oils from herbs and plants grown in the garden also. Gordon Castle Estate is a fine example of what can be done to future-proof historic buildings and beautiful land, create jobs and income for local people and attract tourism to Scotland.. whilst also encouraging people to buy local... it's a win win win in my book. Do please go here to support this enterprising, hard working team.
