No 2. Braemar
Chic Scotland is ALL about the beautiful interior designed holiday houses, as you may probably know if you’ve spent any time at all on the website. Braemar No 2. is one of the best examples I’ve seen to date. This house in Braemar is more striking than a show home, Catriona Elson is clearly a hugely creative talent, having pulled all of this together. I think I would spend so much of my holiday here just looking at every decorative item, wall hanging and covering, and pulling my hands across the fabrics – guessing where everything was sourced. Happily you don’t have to guess too hard because the website offers a comprehensive list of all of the suppliers – brilliant! There are blinds from Timorous Beasties, a chandelier from The White Company, a mirrored coffee table from Anthropologie, chairs from Cox & Cox, lighting from Industville, bedding from Soho Home, and beds from Graham & Greene… and that’s just naming a few. The Area No 2. Braemar is of course situated within the picturesque village of Braemar, which is surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery, beautiful glens and ancient pine forests. If you go onto the No. 2 Braemar website, Catriona has pulled together a fabulous guide to the local area, which is one of the most comprehensive I’ve seen – everything you could possibly need to know about restaurants, local food suppliers, things to do and local attractions. www.no2braemar.co.uk/local-area The House This four bed, stone-built traditional home which sleeps up to 8, has cosy wood burners and sumptuous sofas. There is also a private patio and garden in the front which has an observatory built by Prince Albert! It’s now a glass summer house in which you can enjoy your morning coffee or your evening G&T. There’s also a cosy snug for the kids or a hang out for teenagers, with a large TV to catch up and connect. Or the perfect place to hide away and read the paper. Both TVs in the property are Freesat and come with Netflix and Amazon Prime subscriptions. There’s excellent WiFi speeds so there will be no interruptions when you’re watching your favourite show or film. The spacious, light and well-equipped kitchen has under-floor heating and is kitted out with more wine glasses and crockery than you will need. There’s a Rangermaster oven and plenty of recipe books on the shelf for inspiration. The bean to cup coffee machine will help kick-start your morning. Actually the kitchen is extremely well stocked with cooking utensils and appliances, there’s a Kitchen Aid food processor, microwave, electric whisk and Nutra Bullet. All chosen with the greatest of care to ensure that you have everything you might normally use at home. The dining room has armchairs facing towards mountain views with a table that seats 8, and an opulent chandelier hung above creating a beautiful ambiance. Sleep No.2 Braemar has 4 bedrooms and can sleep up to 8. All of the bedrooms are individually styled with statement wallpapers and fabulously comfortable beds. Even though you are in the heart of the village, it is so quiet and relaxing. All 3 bathrooms and the cloakroom downstairs have under-floor heating… imagine your cosy toes after a bath or shower. The beautiful soft white towels are warmed from the towel rails. Heaven. Overall I just think this would be the most beautiful and inspiring house to book for a 4 night break or longer holiday. I say 4 nights, because there is a minimum booking period of 4 nights at certain times of the year. However, you would really not want to come here for less time, to fully unwind and appreciate everything that the area has to offer. For a couple's getaway, family holiday, girls trip or active holiday, No 2. Braemar could be your home from home in the Highlands!
