The Studio - Melrose
Another absolute stunner of a property in the Scottish Borders positioned amongst 500 acres of privately owned land just outside Melrose, with exceptional views down the Yair and Tweed Valley. I would say the décor is that beautiful Scandi-Scot vibe we have come to love, but actually it’s so much more than that because the lovely owner, Posy specialised in Constructed Textiles at Duncan of Jordanstone, (University of Dundee) and has added richness, warmth and depth with some superb fabric choices. Check her out on Instagram, she has got amazing taste and loves her interior design and it shows – this place is absolutely gorgeous. @the_studio_melrose Her and her husband Pete bought the estate the cottage is set on, (Faldonside) 6 years ago, after previously living in Edinburgh but needing a move to the countryside. This hot holiday let has been created out of what was the farm workshop, but is now an extremely elegant and beautifully converted eco-friendly cottage which consists of – • A large open plan kitchen/sitting room • Log burner with an endless supply of wood from the farm • Bi-fold doors which open onto an enclosed garden with table and chairs • A luxury super king sized bed with an outstanding view from your pillow • A connecting modern bathroom with a shower and bath The property is dog friendly, they will take up to 2 dogs. There is under floor heating and a constant supply of hot water from the bio mass boiler. There are integrated speakers in the ceiling for music throughout the property. I’m thinking… quiet weekend away for 2 - walking, exploring, a little calm cooking and certainly escaping the hustle and hurry of 21st century life. There’s plenty to see and do if you want to explore the area, and you should probably get out, as there is so much in the North Scottish Borders. Lots of cool, creative people moving down from Edinburgh (and elsewhere) and starting up fabby businesses with flair and finesse. Posy and her husband of course are two such people. She has been kind enough to send me this little list of walks, shopping, restaurants etc, so I thought I’d pop it into the listing for you to look at. Walking There are wonderful walks from the door around Faldonside Loch and beyond to Cauldshiels Loch. There is also the St Cuthberts Way or, for those keen for a challenge - the famous Eildon Hills are just a stones throw away. Or just sit back and take in the spectacular views from The Studio. Local Amenities The studio is only 4 miles from the charming market town of Melrose, which has an abundance of local and specialised shops. It’s 3 miles from the larger town of Galashiels, which provides the larger commercial shops. You are 3 miles from Selkirk, well known for its Selkirk Bannock and old textiles mills. Historic Sites to Explore The wonderful Abbotsford House, the home of Sir Walter Scott, with its beautiful garden and walks by the river Tweed. Or pop up to Thirlestane Castle, (12 miles away), a beautiful late 16th century home with its fascinating history. Melrose Abbey, thought to be the burial place of Robert the Bruce's heart is well worth a visit too. The list is endless, Posy can advise to suit your interests. Sport and Culture Melrose is the birthplace of the Rugby Sevens and holds a renowned tournament each year celebrating its sporting history. As well as this, they have the highly acclaimed Borders Book Festival which attracts large interest and provides a great buzz in the town. Riding in the Borders has played a significant role and still to this day the surrounding towns celebrate with a weeks festival which includes rides outs through the border towns. Sounds incredible.
